Subject on China Studies
Contents Studies on China comprise an important part of Prof. Lee's research. One of his distinction in China research is a comparative research on Korea and China. He compared the Chinese development model with the Washington Consensus at the 2006 World Forum on China Studies, drawing attention of many prominent Chinese scholars. The forum was a part of the biannual series of academic conferences held by Shanghai Academy of Social Science. The article was translated into Chinese immediately and published in the forum proceedings. He was also invited to the 2008 Forum, held in September this year, where he discussed the prospect of economic development in China.

Fudan University also organizes a series of forum, known as the Shanghai Forum. Prof. Lee was invited in 2007 as well as 2008, where he gave lectures titled "China and the Flying Geese Model of Development in Asia" and "Korean firms catching up with Japan and Implications for China". The articles were received with great interest in that the analytical perspective came from the experience Korea had in catching-up Japan. An outline of the article was published in the first edition of Seri Quarterly--the journal of Samsung Economic Research Institute.

Prof. Lee has also been an organizer of international academic conferences on China in Korea, as the director of Institute for China Studies at Seoul National University. In 2008, Barry Naughton, Chen Jin, Xiabo Wu, and Kazu Motohashi as well as a group of other distingushed scholars, gathered on the issue of "Assessing China's Catchup." Prof. Lee made a presentation of his own article, "Dynamics of China's Catchup in Mobile Phone and Autmobile Industries." All of the articles presented at the conference will be published as a special issue of the China Economic Journal.

Prof. Lee has been participating in All China Economics (ACE) International Conference organized by City University of Hong Kong. He gave a presentation of ¡°Changing Engines of Growth in China,¡± in December 2006 and "Explaining Performance Change in Business Groups in China" in December 2007. The former was published in China and World Economy in June 2008.
