Keun Lee is a Distinguished Professor, Seoul National University (Economics department), and the founding director of the Center for Economic Catch-up. He has been awarded the 2014 Schumpeter Prize for his monograph on Schumpeterian Analysis of Economic Catch-up: Knowledge, Path-creation and the Middle Income Trap (2013 Cambridge Univ. Press) by the International Schumpeter Society. He was also awarded the Kapp Prize in 2019 by the EAEPE (European Association of Evolutionary Political Economy) for his paper on National innovation systems published in JEE (Journal of evoutionary economics, Lee and Lee 2019).

He is currently an editor of Research Policy, an associate editor of Industrial and Corporate Change, and a columnist for Project Syndicates. He served as the President of the Int'l Schumpeter Society (2016-18), and was a member of the Committee for Development Policy of UN. He was a member of the governing board of Globelics, and had also served as the President of the Asia-Pacific Innovation Network. He also worked for the Korean goverment as a Vice-Chair of the National Economic Advisory Council (for the President of Korea and Chair), from Jan. 2021 to March 2022.

He obtained Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He had working experience at the World Bank, University of Aberdeen, and the East West Center, Hawaii. One of his most widely-cited articles—with 1,500 or so citations (Google Scholar)—is a paper on Korea’s Technological Catch-up published in Research Policy (2001). His H-index by Google Scholar is now 49, with about 127 papers with more than 10 citations, with a total of 10,500 citations or so.
